Designing Green Without Getting Black and Blue

Instructor: Bernadette Upton, ASID LEED AP
2 Hour Course / .2 CEU Credits

This course is an introduction to familiarize interior designers and architects with the design philosophy of designing Green. The emergence of Green design as an important design discipline has been driven by the successful completion of numerous case studies and a growing body of literature that chronicles the benefits of ecologically sound commercial and residential architecture and interiors. The pursuit of Green design is best accomplished when all stakeholders are informed and involved in this collaborative design process. The designer can come away with the confidence to overcome objections that often arise for the professional when first exploring Green strategies.

Though this Course is free-of-charge, it does not include NCIDQ registration fee.

Reservations are required and seating is limited. Please call 404-231-1720 or register online for the CEU course.

2 Hour Course / .2 CEU Credits

This course appeals to the interior designer and decorator because it provides the affirmation of Green design as gorgeous. Too many photos and media presentations have given Green design a less than luster image. Green interior design is merely an avenue of incorporating green (earth friendly and user friendly) products and practices into the interior design process. The talent of the designer remains constant and uncompromised. The challenges only add to the creativity and the talent of the designer. An empowering seminar for designers who want to face the new wave of Green.

Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill - Georgian Style and Design
Co-Sponsored by Holland & Company Antiques and Reproductions and The Royal Oak Foundation
November 12
1:00 p.m.

ADAC Presentation Room, 1st Floor Atrium for Keynote
High Tea and Booksigning Immediately following the Presentation at Holland & Company Antiques and Reproductions, Suite 238

Henrietta Spencer-Churchill is the eldest daughter of the 11th Duke of Marlborough, whose family home is Blenheim Palace, the magnificent stately home near Oxford, designed by John Vanbrugh. After studying in Paris and Florence and completing a course at London’s Inchbald School of Design, Lady Henrietta worked for the designer, Diana Hanbury. In 1981, she formed her own company called Woodstock Designs, specializing in the renovation of country houses.

Henrietta Spencer-Churchill is known for incorporating traditional style in contemporary interiors and will discuss the influence of the Georgian era on today’s interiors. Associated in the U.S. with historical sites such as Colonial Williamsburg and Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, the Georgian style is elegant and harmonious yet also comfortable and inviting. In this lecture, based on her new book, Lady Henrietta will show fabric swatches, color samples and drawings from her own design portfolio to examine how the proportions and architectural elements of the Georgian era can be applied to contemporary informal living spaces. She will also discuss how designers look to historical furnishings for inspiration.

High Tea and a book signing will be held at Holland & Company, Suite 238 immediately following the presentation.

Reservations are required and seating is limited. Please call 404-231-1720 or register online.
